Dear Birthworker,
There is a seed we’ve been carrying for a long time.
It comes from stories, from ceremonies, from the hands of elders and the wisdom of women who have guided life into the world for generations.
This training is an invitation to receive that seed- and to plant it in your own work.
For the first time, Wombs of the World is offering a comprehensive Advanced Doula Training, built around the core values that have shaped everything we do: global maternal health equity, reverence for ancestral knowledge, and birthwork as a path of justice, ceremony, and care.
This training will run alongside the 2025 Wombs of the World Summit in Berlin and will offer you the chance to not just attend- but to deepen, integrate, and carry forward the wisdom you receive.
About the Training
This is not a basic doula training. It is a space for experienced birthworkers who are ready to go deeper. To challenge systems. To learn from traditional and Indigenous midwives. And to return to their communities with tools, clarity, and a practice rooted in justice and reverence.
This training is guided by a teaching shared with us by Ecuadorian elder Taitai Oscar:
“For generations, we had to hide our seeds of knowledge to protect them from colonization. But now, to protect them, we must share them. We must plant them around the world.”
That’s what we are doing here.
The Structure: Root to Bloom
This training follows the natural rhythm of birth and growth. We begin by grounding, then gather in person, and finally return home to integrate and bloom.

-
December 6 – Final Presentations & Reflections

What You’ll Explore
Session 1:
The Anthropology of the Mother
June 14th
In our first week together,
we will explore the historical and systemic forces that have shaped childbirth across cultures. From sacred ceremony to colonial erasure, this session traces the evolution of birth and the role of the mother, helping you understand how your work fits into a much older, and deeper, lineage.
Session 3:
Birthwork as Global Social Justice
September 6th
Birth is not just biological- it’s political. This session dives into the colonial legacies and systemic inequalities that shape maternal health outcomes around the world. We’ll examine how decolonizing our birthwork practices is essential to creating more just, equitable, and liberated birthing experiences.
Session 5
Integration of Ceremony & Ritual Without Appropriation
November 1st
Discover how to design and facilitate rituals that enhance the birthing experience. Drawing inspiration from various cultural traditions, we’ll discuss how to create meaningful ceremonies while maintaining respect and sensitivity.
Session 2:
Cultural Competency & Humility in Birthwork
June 28th
In our second session, we will explore the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural humility. We’ll unpack the biases we carry and the ways systems of power shape our understanding of “safe” or “correct” care. You’ll walk away with frameworks for showing up with integrity in diverse and cross-cultural birth settings.
Session 4:
Bringing It Into Practice – Business Integration & Messaging
September 20th
How do you carry all of this into your real-world practice? This session bridges traditional wisdom with modern birthwork business. We’ll look at how to talk about what you do, set up aligned offerings, price your services with dignity, and honor the knowledge you’re integrating—without replicating harm or hierarchy.
Final Session:
Presentations & Reflections
December 6th
This final session is your space to share. Whether you present a skill you’ve learned, a new offering you’ve developed, or a written or visual reflection, this is your opportunity to ground your learning in action. We’ll witness one another, celebrate, and send these seeds back out into the world.

What You Will Gain by Joining the Advanced Doula Training:
A Global Perspective on Birthwork
-
This training will expand your understanding of birth far beyond the Western framework. You’ll learn from traditional midwives across continents and cultures, gaining insights into how birth is honored, protected, and practiced in ways that reclaim the sacred and defy medicalization.
Unlearning and Re-rooting
-
We will unlearn the myths, biases, and systems that have shaped modern birthwork- from colonial legacies to capitalist models of care. You’ll be invited to return to a deeper knowing, reconnecting with the roots of midwifery and the power of community-based, ancestral birthkeeping.
Practical Skills, Integration Tools & Ongoing Learning
-
From ceremony to business strategy, you’ll gain tools you can immediately apply to your doula practice. In addition to our live sessions, you’ll also receive access to a robust asynchronous course bundle through our learning portal. Think of it as your personal library- filled with recorded modules, additional readings, and resources to revisit anytime.
Mentorship Rooted in Justice
-
This is not a self-paced course. You’ll be guided in live sessions with Charlotte and guest teachers, held in accountable community, and mentored through both the tender and powerful moments that arise in deep work.
A Community of Birthworkers on the Same Path
-
This isn’t just a cohort- it’s a circle. You’ll be surrounded by other birthworkers who are walking the same edge: decolonizing their practice, honoring tradition, and building something new. The relationships you form here will carry you long after our closing session.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this training for?
This training is designed for experienced birthworkers- including doulas, midwives, labor & delivery nurses, educators, and other perinatal professionals- who have completed a foundational doula or birthworker training. It’s for those who are ready to go deeper in their practice through a global, justice-oriented lens.
This is not a beginner-level training or an introduction to doula work. If you’re brand new or exploring birthwork for the first time, we invite you to stay connected—Wombs of the World will be launching foundational doula trainings in the near future.
Is there a payment plan available?
Yes. We offer a payment plan option to help make this training more accessible. You’ll be able to choose the plan that works best for you during checkout.
Can I join if I’m not a certified doula?
Yes. You do not need to be certified through a specific organization. As long as you have completed some form of basic doula or birthworker training (or have equivalent real-world experience), you’re welcome to apply.
By completing this training, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion from Wombs of the World, recognizing your participation in an advanced-level, 40+ hour program centered on global midwifery, cultural humility, and social justice in birthwork. This can be used to demonstrate your continued education and specialization to clients, employers, or peers.
Do I have to attend all the Zoom sessions live?
We strongly encourage live attendance for connection and mentorship, but all sessions will be recorded and available to watch on playback in your learning portal. You’ll have lifetime access to these recordings.
Is the Summit required?
Yes. Attendance at the in-person Wombs of the World Summit in Berlin (October 15–17, 2025) is a core part of the training experience. This is where we gather, sit in ceremony, and learn directly from the traditional midwives who anchor this program.
If you cannot attend the Summit in person, we recommend exploring our other online offerings instead.
